Beekeepers’ Association in the Western North Region Elect Regional Executives

Beekeeping and honey processing have become one of the most viable green businesses in the Sefwi Wiawso-Juaboso Bia (SWJB) landscape. Notwithstanding its vital role in supporting livelihoods and the local economy, the system lacks effective coordination, hence the need to structure, formalize, and ensure effective operationalization of the business within the landscape and the region at large.
In line with this, Tropenbos Ghana together with the Business Advisory Centers (BACs) through the Mobilising More for Climate (MoMo4C) program has supported and organized beekeepers and honey producers in the Western North region to form associations in three (3) political districts thus the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality, Juaboso District, and the Bia West Districts respectively.
Executives from the district-level associations on Friday, the 6th of October, 2023 converged at Kenroses Hotel to elect an executive body for the regional association, the Western North Beekeepers’ Association with Mr. Dominic Eshun and Mr. Alexander Ofori (Hon.) elected as President and Vice President respectively. The new executives were inaugurated and mandated to ensure the effective coordination and operationalization of beekeeping and honey production as a sustainable business case for the Western North Region.
The platform was created under the MoMo4c Project to build a critical mass in gathering beekeepers and honey processors in the landscape by creating synergy and competition in the business value chain, with support from the Business Advisory Units of the various districts. By so doing, beekeepers and honey producers will be able to engage potential off-takers in order to access bigger markets, create a sustainable and viable value chain for honey, drive income diversification for smallholders and beekeepers, and ultimately contribute to building landscape climate resilience.
